The Greenwich Royal Observatory
We had a special trip to the Greenwich Royal Observatory to look through the 28" telescope. It is only open to the public a couple of times a year.

First of all we looked at a couple of stars. Then we looked at Mars, which was at it's closest point to earth for many years. It was very beautiful and an orangy colour. Then the telescope was turned round to look at the moon. It was so clear that we could see shadows on the moon and the craters were very clear.
It is fascinating to watch the telescope moving. The whole of the canopy of the Observatory moves and opens so that the telescope can point through.
