EARTH LAB

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

7th March 2006

A group of us went up to the Natural History Museum and visited the Earth Lab. A geologist from the museum came and talked to us and looked at some of our rock samples and fossils we had taken with us.

Here are just a few of the many that he looked at for us.

He talked to us about the three different types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic and explained what they all were and how they formed. We had a look at examples of all three.

Afterwards, we went all through the gallery about how our planet formed and all the different processes shaped how the planet looks today.

The escalator is great because you go up past all the constellations of the stars and when you reach the top it is like entering the centre of the earth. At the bottom, there are statues of greek mythological figures such as Medusa and Cyclops as well as a statue of Neil Armstrong, the astronaut.
